First You Dream is a national PBS tribute to the Broadway songwriting team and Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Oscar-winning legends John Kander and Fred Ebb, whose body of work includes Broadway hits, acclaimed TV shows and classic films, including Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Scottsboro Boys, Zorba and Liza With A Z.
FIRST YOU DREAM premiered as part of the 2015 PBS Arts Fall Festival, an annual cornerstone of PBS’ Friday primetime lineup that reached more than 15 million viewers last season and underscores PBS’ ongoing commitment to give audiences the best of the arts on air and online.
FIRST YOU DREAM is a fast-paced, funny, poignant and celebratory glimpse into the extraordinary Kander & Ebb song catalog. From the dark comedy of “Cell Block Tango,” to a beautiful ballad rendition of “Cabaret,” to a surprising and thrilling take on “New York, New York," FIRST YOU DREAM is proof positive of Kander & Ebb’s standing as landmark composers of some of the most influential and beloved Broadway songs ever created.
FIRST YOU DREAM boasts an impressive cast of leading Broadway performers, including Kate Baldwin, Heidi Blickenstaff, James Clow, Norm Lewis, Julia Murney and Matthew Scott. First staged at The Signature Theatre by stage director Eric Schaeffer and music director David Loud, FIRST YOU DREAM was produced for stage and television by HMS co-founder Scott Silberstein, and directed for television and edited by HMS' Matt Hoffman.
