And we're always up to something. Here are a few highlights:
Anniversary DVD edition of "Second to None"
December 1, 2009
Ten years ago WTTW11 premiered HMS' critically acclaimed documentary SECOND TO NONE. This Emmy-nominated special tracked the creation of a Second City mainstage revue from the first day of rehearsal through opening night. That revue turned out to be the classic PARADIGM LOST; its director was acclaimed improv teacher and guru Mick Napier; and its cast was one of the all-time great Second City casts:Rachel Dratch, Scott Adsit, Kevin Dorff, Jenna Jolovitz, Jim Zulevic and Tina Fey.
Now HMS has created a special extended anniversary DVD edition of SECOND TO NONE, which contains more than 45 minutes of never-before-seen footage, deleted scenes and special features, including a brand new commentary track featuring Tina, Rachel, Mick, Scott, Kevin and Jenna. On Sunday December 13, 2009, The Second City will screen the new anniversary expanded version of SECOND TO NONE as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. Visit www.secondcity.com for details, and stay tuned for details about when and where you can purchase the new and improved SECOND TO NONE!
"Mamma Mia!" On The Road
October 15, 2009
Hot on the heels of our collaboration with the Tony Award-winning musical BILLY ELLIOT, for which we helped create the podcast series WE ARE BILLY ELLIOT (www.wearebillyelliot.com), HMS is thrilled to be able to follow up that series with MAMMA MIA! ON THE ROAD, a new series that will take online viewers on tour with one of the most popular musicals of the past ten years. Each week ON THE ROAD will introduce viewers to the cast, production team and crew who bring MAMMA MIA! to life every week in a new city.
The series will feature loads of live performances, fascinating behind-the-scenes footage, and lots of interviews with the cast as they travel coast to coast. MAMMA MIA! ON THE ROAD will give audiences unprecedented access to one of the most successful touring shows of all time. The series goes online in November 2009; check back for details about where to stream, download or subscribe to every new podcast. And for more information about Mamma Mia!, visit www.mamma-mia.com.
Four Emmy nominations for "Every Dancer Has a Story"
September 21, 2009
HMS Media's most recent dance special for public television, EVERY DANCER HAS A STORY, showcasing River North Chicago Dance Company as it enters its third decade, was a hit with both audiences and critics (who called it "one of the best dance films since the heydey of Dance In America), and apparently Emmy judges like it too. EVERY DANCER has been nominated for four Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards for Outstanding Arts/Entertainment Program, Direction, Videography and Lighting.
The awards will be presented November 7, 2009 at the Park West in Chicago, and we will post the results as soon as they're in. Congratulations to director Matt Hoffman, videographers John Ford, Gino Russano, Greg Stasevsky and Mark Zurawiec, lighting director Todd Clark, producer Scott Silberstein, and everyone on the creative and production teams.
