What’s the Camp Nebagamon Connection?

HMS Media

The time: Summer, 1977. The place: Camp Nebagamon, in the north woods of Wisconsin. An idyllic 8-week summer camp program for boys; hiking, canoeing, cycling, sailing, campcrafts, orienteering… and weekly talent shows. 14-year-old Matt Hoffman and 13-year-old Scott Silberstein are cast as brothers in The Night The Ghost Got In, a tribute to James Thurber. Not long after, at the Camp Follies, Scott and Matt stage Beatlemaniamania, their first multimedia spectacular (if you count a slide show, 8mm movies edited in camera, and a beat-up piano as spectacular), and the seeds of HMS Media were sown.

Our beloved Camp Nebagamon has been the summer home of some spectacular talent over the years; legendary Broadway composer John Kander, who penned New York New York, Chicago, Cabaret and the new hit Curtains, is another Nebagamon alum and Follies producer, and continues to be a much-loved mentor to the HMS boys. Visit the gallery page to see the HMS boys in their formative years at Camp Nebagamon and beyond.
