Christmas Carol: The Remix

We’d already presented one of the great contemporary reinventions of “A Christmas Carol,” with our special A Christmas Carol: The Concert. So how lucky were we to get to capture another?

Very, very lucky. Since its premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the brilliant Christmas Carol: The Remix By Q Brothers has been lighting up Chicago stages for a decade. Now, having premiered on WTTW and being streamed by BroadwayHD, HMS’ lively capture of The Q Brothers’s classic can reach the millions of people it deserves.

Now it would be easy be to sum up Christmas Carol: The Remix as “Dickens meets Hamilton.” But the Q’s have been creating hip hop takes on Shakespeare for more than two decades, including The Bombitty of Errors, Funk It Up About Nothin’ and Othello: The Remix. These guys are genuine originals and trendsetters.

Shot live at The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Chicago’s Navy Pier, Christmas Carol: The Remix By Q Brothers earned a couple of Emmy nominations and has become a broadcasting and streaming holiday tradition.

Christmas has never been more fun.
