I’ve walked through the sidewalks, alleys and pedways of Chicago’s east loop many hundreds of times, but I’d never inhabited them so fully until Chicago Shakespeare Theatre lured me downtown with an e-blast to try something called “en route,” an interactive theatrical experience created by an innovative Australian troupe called “one step at a time like this.”

I recently attended the Chicago Dancing Festival kick-off party, and you couldn't have asked for a more welcoming, enthusiastic invitation to come join the festival. The kick-off party took place at Benchmark, the Old Town bar and restaurant on Wells Street, just a block or so south of The Second City.

My apologies for the obvious name of the blog, but I'm a straight guy from the Midwest who loves the arts, and it's a point that I make because, according to stereotypes, I'm exactly the guy who is not supposed to love theater, music, dance, museums and so on.
